Mud Tug 2008

Annually, Phi Kappa Psi and Zeta Tau Alpha host an event on RIT’s campus known as Mud Tug.  This year brought the 13th and most successful Mud Tug to date. We were able to raise nearly $4000 and involve more than 1000 people in the fight against breast cancer.

Mud Tug is a large tug-a-war battle over large pits of mud.  The event gains its prestige from being the only of its kind on our campus.  Many people drive from all over New York State to attend this event.  Not only is every dollar raised donated directly to charity, but we are also able to provide food, entertainment, and prizes for the winners.  The event had become such a success in the last few years; RIT considers it to be one of its own.

This event brought together students from all different parts of campus. Sports teams, clubs, dorm students, and most of the Greek Life at RIT attended this event. This shows how the RIT community can come together in support of a very worthy cause.

Along with raising money through teams, sponsors were able to provide prizes to those who won in the event. The Rochester community helped out a lot from donating money, iPod speakers, gift certificates, and many other prizes. With the help of the larger community it shows that this event is not closed off to only RIT students, but open to all who wish to participate.

The RIT Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi continues to offer the Adam Brody Memorial Scholarship, to honor our brother who gave his life to save the life of another. This is awarded every year to a male freshman or transfer student. The $1000 is awarded after the committee judges the submitted essay applications.

Grand Chapter

NY-Theta attended GAC this past weekend in New Orleans.  Three awards were won including the "Grand Chapter" award.  An award was also given for outstanding alumni newsletter (which you can download and read from our website) and an award for an outstanding pledge and fraternity education program.  Both undergrads and alumni were present to recieve the highest award given by the national headquarters.  The chapter has pushed foward with overwhelming statistics in grades, philanthropy hours and chapter improvement programs.  A GPA which crushes all averages at RIT in addition to averaging over 50 hours of philanthropy per brother is outstanding. Our chapter is a living example of the balance that can be achived between education, friendship, community service and recreation.  Our chapter is looking forward to another great year of success and growth.  RUSH PHI PSI!
